Wild animals are beautiful to see and fascinating to watch. I derive great pleasure in observing how they move, how they interact with one another, and how their environment affects their behavior. Every season presents new and challenging photo opportunities, from the mating dance of the sage grouse in the spring, to the fall, when beaver and squirrels scurry to add to their winter larder, and migrating geese fill the sky with music as they honk their way south. I read the works of the great nature photographers such as John Shaw and Moose Peterson. I think the most important idea of many that Moose Peterson is famous for is “No photograph is worth sacrificing the welfare of the subject!”. I would rather walk away from a shot than put undue stress on an animal. For me, the pleasure is in being outside, observing what I am allowed to, and sharing what I can through photography.
